    • Conclusion

Using facial products is highly important to a lot of patients. Some have professional or personal demands that impose them on their need and desired makeup. During Lasik surgery, a laser is used to change the cornea curvature. Depending on the type of surgery you undergo, the size of the cut can vary from 27-2mm.

The cuts have healing and recovery time and it’s important to avoid exposing your eyes to dirt during the healing period to reduce the risk of complications. Depending on the procedure, it will take a minimum of two weeks to heal.

Before we delve into the main topic, let’s look at the story of Victoria who came to Lasik NJ for an eye surgery. Victoria is a model who has to dress up and apply heavy makeup daily, which is part of her work profile. She was declared suitable for LASIK after she underwent a pre-LASIK evaluation.

When she first came, her first question was, when can she start applying her makeup again after the surgery. Naturally, it’s a professional requirement for her but for others, it’s just a casual requirement maybe when going out. Victoria was advised to do Smile Lasik surgery and wait for at least 7 days before she starts using eye products again. But still, she was allowed to use her face makeup one day after the surgery.

The reason she was restricted from using the products after surgery was to prevent dirt from entering her eyes and causing eye infections. She may experience a Lid infection due to makeup and it can result in an eye infection. Any kind of eye infection can be dangerous to Lasik procedures.

When it comes to LASIK and eye makeup, there are many dos and don’ts including:

Avoiding eye makeup one week after the surgery

Even after one week, you must be very careful. Be gentle when using a mascara brush or when applying an eye pencil because it can scratch or irritate your eyes. In fact, it’s better to avoid using any type of eye makeup that can flake off in your eyes or lead to irritation that will give you the urge to rub your eyes. Flaky products like powder shadow that contain glitters or sparkle or mascaras that are used to lengthen or strengthen eyelashes are best avoided.

    Face make-up

You can start using cream or touch up on your face but away from the eyes 2 to 30 days after surgery again you should be cautious of using powdery makeup and if possible, just use non-powdery products.

Discard all your old eye makeup and its applicators.

Your old makeup and brushes may contain bacteria even if you just use them once before the surgery and using them again can cause eye infection. You should not consider washing them because it’s not enough if you are going to apply makeup within a few weeks after your surgery, then it’s better to buy new applicators This will ensure safety and reduce the risk of eye infection.

Eye make-up removal needs to be very careful.

After undergoing the Lasik procedure, you must be very careful when removing the makeup. You must remove it gently while avoiding rubbing or exerting force on it. You can use gentle eye makeup removers or even home-based olive oil. The aim is to avoid causing flap displacement which happens if you exert force while removing the makeup.

A similar case happened to Laura; She had a wedding to attend seven days after her LASIK. To look good, she decided to wear some shimmer eyeshadow and was later unable to remove it with her usual eye makeup remover. She gently rubs her eyelids to remove the facial products but during the process, her baby comes running towards her and mistakenly her finger touches her eyes.

She started experiencing blurry vision and immediately came to the clinic. The force of her finger caused her flap to be displaced. The flap was quickly repositioned, and she was okay with it. Avoid exerting force on your eyes a few weeks after LASIK because any small mistake can result in flap displacement therefore all care needs to be taken.

Not just after the procedure, it’s advised to remove all traces of makeup such as lipstick, facial lotions, and others completely before the surgery. In fact, to ensure that there is not even the tiniest makeup on your face, it’s recommended to avoid using the products three days before Lasik eye surgery Paramus NJ procedure.

Models and people whose profession requires them to apply makeup on a daily basis need to make plans very well before the final day. Particularly, eye makeup should be avoided for ten days, starting from the three days post-surgery to the seven days after.

In addition, people come to consider going for ReLEx smiles because the size of the incision in this case is just 2 mm and the risk of infection due to eye or facial makeup is minimal. Similarly, the risk of injuring the eye while using or removing the products is minimal just like Smile Lasik which doesn’t require the use of a flap on the cornea hence preventing a person from the risk of flap displacement.

    Conclusion

As mentioned, some people have a profession that requires them to touch up their faces all the time. At the same time, they may be recommended to do LASIK. In this case, you have to make some compromises to ensure you recover faster and at the right time. Some of the things the surgeon will ask you is to avoid using these products at least 3 days before the procedure and seven days after although the exact duration usually depends on the type of surgery you are going to do.

Overall, keep in mind that it’s better to sacrifice those few weeks to recover than have to deal with the aftermath of infection.
